A Little Bit of Decorating

We recently painted the house, doors, and trim. It was long overdue, but now it’s taken care of, we won’t have to think about it for several years.

The door is a pretty green… Sour Apple by Magnolia. I love it!
Because we have a glass storm door, whatever hangs on the door can’t be too thick. This wreath from Joann.com is perfect!

After the new paint, I thought I’d look for faux topiaries. Have you shopped for topiaries before? They can be very expensive! I was going to wait for Hobby Lobby to have a sale, but while shopping for rugs at Walmart, I walked right past these and both my daughter and I thought they’d be perfect! Larger ones may have worked, but these were short and sweet and much cheaper!

I’d been looking on Pinterest for front porch decor ideas and noticed the layered rug look. Guess I’ve not been keeping up with trends but I thought I’d try it. To me, it’s just that much more to clean and keep tidy, but it does look nice! What do you think of layering your rugs?

On the way home I stopped at the Dollar General Store to get a few cheap flowers. I put them in an old rusty pitcher, added some real oak leaves, and called it done!

This is at the corner of our front porch. A neighbor gave me the old wooden boxes, the rusty tools and stove door came from my old home place. The church was purchased at The Allardt Pumpkin Festival many years ago and the bucket of flowers was put together by my daughter and little granddaughter, Jolee.
That’s probably going to be the extent of fall decorating around here, not too much, just enough to know it’s fall. 🍂🍁😊

My website opens October 1st! Hope to see you there!

A New Website Coming Soon!

After several years, I finally have a website! I plan on making Honeysuckle Lane live on October 1st. I’ll be moving a lot of items over from my Etsy shop, but I will keep a few things on Etsy just for the traffic and referrals.

Similar to my first website from several years ago, this one will have several categories. I love to make quilts, but I also love to paint, and I’ll always do paper cuttings and valentines… and categories will make it look less cluttered.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar! I plan on having discounts for the opening!

See you soon,

Lana

A Little Bit of Thrifting!

While out with one of my sisters, we looked up a few “new to us” thrift stores.

These are definitely places we will keep on our list!

I got this pot for $2.99… and it is the same style as a dozen I got at a junk store over 20 years ago!

This little metal box full of pretty blue index cards was $1.50

I bought this Princess House carafe for my daughter who makes fun summer fruit drinks and iced coffee. She can use it in her product photos and videos for Marigold Lettering Co.

It and the glass stirrer were only $2.99!

The box in the background was only a quarter! I’ll use it for display and storage on a shelf.
Does anyone know what it was originally used for?

I also got a few books. I love the colors! And sometimes you find an interesting bookplate or embossed covers.

It was so fun to get out and thrift all day, even if I didn’t get a car full of goodies!

Thanks for visiting!

Around the house…

This summer we didn’t have the usual blackberry crop… maybe it was the lack of rain. Seems like so much shriveled up before we finally did get a good amount of rain.

My daughter sowed sunflower seeds beside the garden and a few finally came up and bloomed.

Jessica also sowed several packets of zinnia seeds. They are so pretty! Zinnias are one of my favorites, I think because my mom grew zinnias when I was a young girl.

,

I’m so glad we have lots of trees on our property. They provide shade for deer and are home to countless birds, squirrels, raccoons, possums.

While going through a cabinet in my workroom, I found these silk ribbons I dyed a few years back. Until I use them in my handmade pieces, they are being used as props in my photos.

And while cleaning a cabinet, I found a bottle of poppy seeds my mother-in-law gave me many, many years ago. I wonder if they will come up if I sow them this fall? Below are a few photos of the poppies. Aren’t they pretty?

I didn’t make blackberry jam this year since we have so much left from a couple years ago. Instead, I canned several jars of strained blackberries. I’ll use this for seedless blackberry dumplings.

The following photos loaded in the opposite order intended, but I’ll explain anyway.
In all the years my business has been called Honeysuckle Lane, I never really made anything with honeysuckle on it… odd, isn’t it?

So this summer, I painted honeysuckle blooms! The bouquet is what I picked when getting ready for a mini product photo shoot. But that day there were no honeysuckle vines in bloom!

I had bookmarks made from my honeysuckle painting. Can you spot them?

And my new business cards actually have a honeysuckle bloom on them!

This is the painting. I am really happy with it, so much that I am keeping it and will have a frame made for it. I have a few vintage frames to choose from. I’ll ask my son or husband to cut it down to fit.

That’s what’s been going on around here this summer.

Not to get ready for my favorite season of all… FALL! 🍂🍁🎃

Floral Note Cards

New items in the shop!
I scanned all of my artwork before the festival in June, but it wasn’t until recently that I had the note cards made.

Good for me, but unfortunate for you… The Lilac Collection (shown above) has already sold out!
However, there are a few sets left of the others.

If you’d like to purchase a set or two, visit my Honeysuckle Lane Etsy shop.
