Blue and Brown Star Quilt

I guess you could call this one Primitive Star Quilt. To me, this is the perfect weight and size for a throw quilt, and the colors are not too bright and not too dark… Goldilocks or someone with a cabin or farmhouse would like it!

I used so many prints in this quilt, both new and vintage. It sounds funny calling anything from the 80s or 90s vintage, but I suppose that’s what it is now. I made a lot of folk art / primitive items in years past, so I shopped from my leftover fabric stash. I also shop from other quilters’ destashes. That gives me a varied collection and helps with the scrappy look.

I love sewing the binding on by hand!

The two photos below show the layouts I tried. But really, with half square triangles, the sky’s the limit in designs!

If you are interested in this quilt, you can purchase it through my Honeysuckle Lane shop. I have several more listed there, as well.

I have loads of fabric that I have bundled together, thinking… oh! that will make the perfect half square triangle quilt! Guess I’d better stock up on lots of coffee. I see a lot of long, late nights in my future!

P.S. If you really knew me, you’d know what a joke those late nights are anymore. If I’m not up and moving around, I’m dozing off by 7pm! 😂😴

Thanks for stopping by!

Puzzle Purse Valentine Collection 2022

♥️ Puzzle Purse Valentines are ready, but hurry… only 3 are left!

http://hlshop.blogspot.com/2022/02/puzzle-purse-valentine-collection-2022.html

If you are wondering what is a puzzle purse, here you go:

These are inspired by love tokens originally made in the late 1700s and the early 1800s.

Messages of LOVE are written on these Valentines which are folded in a precise intricacy so that as you open it according to the numbered sections, you read a verse or a phrase, and tiny hand painted pictures are revealed. The very inner most part of these Valentines have woven paper hearts or a woven paper heart and hand. They are sometimes tricky for the recipient to re-fold, which is part of the charm of the puzzle purse.

All artwork, which is a combination of naive / schoolgirl art / fraktur influences, is done with watercolors and India ink on aged paper. I have referenced American folk art books for ideas for flowers, birds, and other early American designs. I use poems of the 1700s and 1800s. Keep in mind these are hand done, so each one will be unique. Many steps are involved in the process of making these one of a kind tokens of love. I'm sure you and your loved one will appreciate the time and care it takes to create them.

The valentines measure 2 1/2" square closed and 7 1/2" square when fully opened.

Each valentine comes with a 3" papier mache box, painted, aged, and decorated with double woven hearts. The boxes with shredded paper and coordinating tops are my own idea that I began using several years ago. As far as I know, the puzzle purses were not delivered in boxes.
