Hi everyone!
I hope you are enjoying the Guest Artist and Guest Blogger features. For some time I have wanted to share other people's art and stories with you and I hope that next year will be full of many, many more posts that will inspire and encourage you.
Today I'd like for you to meet Cindy Forrester of Reclaimed Soul Jewelry. I ran across her blog a couple of years ago (I think) and fell in love with her work! You can tell right away when you see her work that she puts her heart into each piece she creates. Here's her description of her work: "Handcrafted meaningful jewelry to fit every unique need for special occasions or everyday. I refer to them as “Reclaimed Soul”. Inspiration comes from inspiring words, nature and my love of vintage."
I gave Cindy a list of questions and let her choose 5 to share her answers with us:
1. Why do you do the art that you do?
Well I have this overwhelming desire in my heart that I must create, create, create!!!
2. What is your favorite décor style?
Kind of ecclectic, I love mixing old with more contemporary.
3. List your 3 favorite colors.
Blue, green and yellow.
4. What is your earliest memory of crafting / creating?
Hmmm...well I think I was probably around 7 or 8, for Christmas I always got the paint by number sets, the first one was of a puppy and I fell in love with those brushes and paint.
5. Who influenced you most in your art?
My 7th grade teacher Betty Mattox, she always encouraged me to keep drawing and painting. She would tell me that I could do anything I wanted to if I would just make up my mind to do it. At the end of that school year I wanted to take my work home but she wouldn't allow it, I found out years later she had kept them and they were now hanging in her home. Sadly, she passed away from cancer when I was around 19 years old. She was a great lady and teacher and I carry her memory in my heart always.
Thank you for sharing with us Cindy! It's hard to choose a favorite but I just adore that little deer necklace!
Please feel free to leave a comment here for Cindy, and then head on over to her blog and shop to see more of her work and read about her inspirations and things that she's working on.

Guest Artist ~ Jenny Batt of Hank + Hunt
Welcome to the second Guest Artist post! This week I'd like to introduce you to Jenny of Hank + Hunt. I first met Jenny back in September when she did a blog post about my Simple Joys Paperie shop. When I visited her blog to read the post, I was immediately draw to her lovely fabric garlands and knew I'd want to feature her as a guest artist. So... here are the 5 questions Jenny chose to answer, along with photos of her work:
1. Why do you do the art that you do?
I love finding the perfect decorations for parties. I usually make my own because I can never find the color or pattern I need. I am sometimes overly ambitious. One day I was playing with my new sewing machine goodies from last Christmas and the lovely that came out looked like garland to me. I had never seen fabric garlands before and thought it would be a great idea. They are durable and more enduring than paper streamers, which I have ripped countless numbers of right before the party. I love touching them and knowing I will still have these lovelies years and many celebrations from now. I also REALLY love to share things…so Hank + Hunt was born.
2. List your 3 favorite colors.
Martha Blue, Kelly Green and any range of white.
3. What is your earliest memory of crafting / creating?
The first thing I ever sewed was a fabric spatula. I don’t know why, but it was ninth grade and my best friend and I were feeling crafty. It makes me laugh every time I think about it. But what I really remember about it, was that I sewed without a pattern. I still have that sewing style. I will usually make it up rather than sewing from a premade pattern.
4. What time of day (or night) are you most creative?
Usually anytime during the day, when I should really be doing my errands or chores I will have a great idea. I have to make lists (a lot of them) or else I would never get anything done!
5. Of all the pieces you have created, which one meant the most to you?
It’s not garland. I just made this little monster; well, okay…he’s almost as big as my 3 year old. I made him to go with his little monster birthday party. He loves it. It makes me feel all proud inside to have him insist on bringing it with us everywhere and to bed. I made it and he loves it. I can’t describe how wonderful it makes me feel.
Thank you, Jenny, for sharing a bit about yourself!
Please be sure to leave a comment to welcome Jenny.

Guest Artist ~ Jeanne Winters
Hi everyone! Are you ready to meet another artist? This week I want to introduce to you the talented Jeanne Winters. I found her amazing art on Etsy some time ago and I just love her fresh, vintage, inspirational artwork! Jeanne's Simply Inspiring gift collection may be purchased at Hallmark Gold Crown stores and her Inspirational Home book is available in her Etsy shop. If you purchase no later than Monday, you will get an extra signed copy of her book!
The following are just a few questions and answers to acquaint you with Jeanne. You'll have to visit her blog to read more. :)
1. Why do you do the art that you do?
An artist just has to get it out. ideas pop into my head and then I'm compelled to make it happen. I want to create "happy" inspirational art. my art is an expression of my faith. I think the Bible is so amazing and I try to portray the love & uplifting messages from it in my work.
2. What is your favorite decor style?
Beach cottage! I love the clean look of whites & aqua blues, with casual eclectic furnishings and some vintage accent pieces.
3. What is your earliest memory of crafting / creating?
I can remember drawing pencil portraits of my little friends in 2nd grade. That's one of my first "real art" memories.
4. What time of day (or night) are you most creative?
I'm a night owl and can really get into a groove staying up until the wee hours. It's terrible thing to do when you have little kids, as it's painfully hard to be bright, perky and "always on" the next morning! So, I can't pull it off much anymore!
5. Describe your dream studio.
My dream studio is light and airy and full of every type of paint, brushes and craft supply known to man. No big requirements. Oh wait! It has to overlook the ocean! A warm ocean with a white sandy beach between my open french doors and the softly rolling waves. And lots of space for my kids to get messy doing art alongside. And a nice sound system. :-)
Jeanne ~ thank you so much for letting us learn just a bit about you and your work. :)
Please leave a comment for Jeanne, and when you are through, be sure to visit her blog and websites.

Guest Artist ~ Sharon Mitchell of Homespun Heart Primitives
This week's guest artist is Sharon Mitchell of Homespun Heart Primitives. I first met Sharon when I joined Simply Primitives, an online market for folk artists. She has always inspired me with her love of early, primitive art and her kindness towards all those she comes in contact with. Following this introduction are photos that Sharon has shared of her wax ornaments made from her own molds and a few questions and answers to get you a little bit more acquainted with Sharon ~ you'll have to visit her websites to learn even more! :)
{Mold for this new design, above, will be available soon as a benefit to raise money for Betsy's (Foothills Primitives) daughter. A single mom, Terri had surgery on September 28 and will not likely be able to return to work until after the New Year. Details coming soon on Sharon's website.}
1. What is your favorite décor style?
Primitive Early American is my favorite décor style. I love the sense of warmth and comfort from something that has a history and has been loved by others before me.
2. List your 3 favorite colors.
Red, White and Blue
3. What time of day (or night) are you most creative?
When I was younger late evening was most creative time of day after my children were in bed. Now I find the mornings are my best creative time. I attribute this to a good nights sleep and a good dose of morning daylight to work in, which my eyes greatly appreciate.
4. If you could acquire any piece of art by another artist, what would it be?
An Izannah Walker doll would be my hearts desire. Her dolls to me are the embodiment of beautiful three dimensional folk art.
5. Describe your dream studio.
My dream studio would be in a rustic log cabin filled with primitive antiques to house all my supplies with plenty of windows for light.

Hi everyone ~ thanks so much for stopping by!
{handmade by Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage}
I'm sure that all of you will agree that there is sooooo much talent out there to be seen, so many lovely creations to discover, and so many wonderful people to meet. I have wanted to feature other artists for quite some time and I have finally started lining up folks to showcase.
{handmade by Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage}
In this weekly feature, I will introduce you to one artist, share links to their work, share photos of some of their designs (and possibly a peek into their work spaces), and give you a glimpse of their artistic life with 5 Q&As (they get to choose 5 out of 10 to answer).
{handmade by Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage}
Please make our first guest artist welcome with a comment at the end of this post and be sure to visit her blog and shop. Her shabby coastal style with light and airy colors is going to wow you!!! :)
~ Gina Luker of The Shabby Chic Cottage ~
1. Why do you do the art that you do? Handmade items add character to a home like nothing else can. The pieces I make for a room are generally my favorite part - and I want to share that feeling with people who can't or don't have time to make pieces for themselves.
2. Describe your art with 7 adjectives. Classic, weathered, farmhouse, cottage, vintage inspired, quality
3. What is your favorite décor style? I love coastal cottage with a French inspired twist
4. What time of day (or night) are you most creative? Early morning - between 5 a.m. and noon - after that I just want to nap and snuggle my kiddos :)
5. Describe your dream studio. I'd love to have a big loft space so that I could have room to cut, sew and create - a space to paint anything and everything - and the more architectural details, the better!

Feed Readers, Giveaways & Guest Artists
I follow a lot of blogs using the follow button in the sidebar, but I usually forget to check them in my blog account. For that reason, I subscribe to them via the RSS feeds. That way, they come directly to my email and I can read them there, then click on the link to be taken to the blog website if I decide to read more. I've had some friends tell me that they are having difficulty with Feedblitz, so I have taken that option off my blog and added a different feed reader button. It's the one that says "Subscribe to Honeysuckle Lane". Click on the Posts button and choose how you'd like to receive my blog updates. I hope that works better for all of you. :)
Now, about the giveaway... I have been asked by the CSN Stores to host a giveaway on my blog. I won a voucher from them some time ago and blogged about it and my coffeemaker purchase here. I will officially start the giveaway Friday, Nov.5th, in another post, so please come back then to enter. I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you came by for a visit today. :)
In that same post, I mentioned how blessed I was to win several giveaways. Well, this was another giveaway that I had recently won! I just didn't want to mention it until I actually got the gift card and spent it. :)
The talented Mary, at Urban Farmgirl (whose painted furniture I just LOVE!) gave a link to the Purdy paint products giveaway. I thought I would be entering to win the actual paint brush products (guess I didn't read the fine print) but instead I won a $100 gift card to the home improvement store of my choice! As far as I know, it's still going on ... a winner a day ... so head on over and enter! Oh, and here's what I got with my gift card: a white, 4 shelf, multi-purpose cabinet. I had to pay just a little extra (it was $139 at the nearest store). I would much rather have an antique or vintage cabinet painted by Mary, but this is something I needed for storage in the bathroom... 4 months ago! It's neat and clean and serves its purpose until I find just the perfect antique piece.
Sunday night, I will introduce you to my first Guest Artist. I have wanted to do this for quite a while, but never got it organized. I have several talented artists lined up for a weekly spot and I think you will enjoy meeting them and visiting their shops.
Ok, now that I've talked your ears off, I need to get back to work. I have a few wreaths to pack and ship, a few more special orders of wings and wreaths to start, and then a giveaway to draft and have ready to post tomorrow.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Take Care & God Bless,

How Bright Is Your Light? ~ Guest Post
The folks at OttLite and I have been visiting each other via social media (blogs, facebook and twitter) for a while now. They are always friendly and ready to help.
Most of my readers do some sort of handwork that requires good lighting, so I recently asked someone from LiteSource (a retailer for OttLite) to do a guest post on my blog about lighting for your craft room or studio and Charlene has written a very helpful post!
~*~
How Bright is Your Light?
If
you’re sewing or working with crafts, lighting plays a key role in your
creation. Dull or poor lighting can strain your eyes, cause a headache
and even throw off the hue or tone of your project’s actual color. With
OttLite natural lighting technology, you will be able to see things in
their true color state. Words will also be clearer and squinting should
no longer be necessary to view fine the fine details of your craft.
Whatever
your hobby may be, there is an OttLite for just about everyone. Even if
you just want to save on your electric bill, OttLite can help. The
following examples are a few suggestions below that might make working
easier on your eyes!
Below
is a photo of a great, versatile lamp that is made for a craft table.
Say hello to the Jupiter Magnifier Lamp from The Lite Source. This lamp
is adjustable and also includes a handy magnifier to see your creation
up-close.
Another
great lamp that can come in handy for artists of all types is the
3-in-1 Craft Lamp by OttLite. This convenient fixture, also sold by The
Lite Source is fully adjustable. It appears as a floor lamp, but can be
converted to meet your needs with included hardware. The added clip is a
great way to hold your work when you need an extra hand!
Here’s
a perfect tool for viewing things on the go. The Mini LED Flip Light is
a take-along light that can be easily stored in your purse or pocket
when out shopping. Instead of coming home with an off-toned fabric
swatch or paint hue, you can see its true color before you even purchase
it!
Whether
you are an artist, knitter or seamstress, proper lighting can
definitely be beneficial to your work. The following link shows a video
about how an OttLite can assist you. http://youtu.be/ibEkQKduaEg
Here are few testimonials about how OttLite Lighting helps crafters with their creations. Feel free to check them out! http://youtu.be/6sjyFFJtkEc or http://youtu.be/BBL-pPgHDes

Guest Blogger ~ Molly Alexander of Miss Molly's Designs
I happened upon Molly's blog, Beautifully Broken Me, a couple of years ago when following links on a jewelry artist's blog. I realized right away that not only was Molly's jewelry beautiful, her words were, as well. Molly writes from the heart, and what a kind, caring, generous, God-loving heart she has!
Please welcome Molly as Guest Blogger in the comments once you finish reading her story:
What would you do if you were asked to take in a troubled teenager and were given one day to make your decision? This is the question we were asked nearly two years ago. To understand the situation better, let me back up a bit…
My husband Shawn, our son Zach and I moved into our relatively secluded suburban neighborhood nearly seven years ago, when Zach was in 4th grade. We love this community that has two K - 8 schools and a high school, all within a couple of miles from our home. We are big youth sports people, and immediately had Zach in Pop Warner football. By the time Zach was in 6th grade, we had also started a Middle School Youth Lacrosse League and began recruiting players.
One of the first kids to come out for Lacrosse was Josh. He was one of those kids who immediately starts tugging on your heartstrings from the moment you meet him, and we got to know him better throughout the season. He came from a rough background – we didn’t know how rough at the time – and obviously needed people in his life that cared about him. So we kept an eye on him and made sure he continued to play Lacrosse for us as he moved from house to house, friend to friend – most of these homes without rules or parents who had a clue about where he was. When we would hear skateboards going by the house at 1:00 AM, we knew it was Josh and his friends. He would show up on our front porch all the time asking for water or food or just to come in and hang out, and it soon became obvious that the home he was staying in probably wasn’t the best place for him.
What an understatement…
On January 3rd, 2009, we got a phone call at 8:00 AM asking us to come to the CPS office that day at 1:00 PM to testify on Josh’s behalf in a guardianship hearing to remove him from the home he was then staying in. As Josh had never been in “the system”, this was all a strange process for him, and we were happy to come to support him. By the end of that meeting, the CPS director asked if we would take Josh as his Foster Parents. We weren’t nor had we ever been Foster Parents, and we didn’t really know Josh all that well, except through Lacrosse, so the question definitely shook us up a bit. We had always said to each other that, if the opportunity arose, we would take him in a heartbeat, and it was time to step up. We knew we had to talk with Zach before we gave them an answer, and when we did talk to him, he was amazing and agreed that we definitely needed to open our home up to Josh.
So on January 6th - Josh’s 16th birthday – we took him out to dinner and asked him to come live with us and be part of our family.
And he said yes.
And so began our journey as Foster Parents. It has been so much harder and so much more rewarding than we could have ever known. We started learning more and more about Josh’s background, and boy, were we naïve. We still don’t know everything he has gone through in his lifetime, but we are learning it, bit by bit. We were Josh’s 5th home in 6 years, and that alone kept him from having any trust in us at all. I think he was just waiting for us to discard him, just like all of those people who came before us. Not an easy thing to overcome, for sure.
So, from the classes we took and the experiences we’ve had, here are some things we have learned over the past two years that have helped our family tremendously:
I am grateful for the opportunity God has given us to be a part of Josh’s life. He is doing so well and has overcome so much, and we have made sure that he knows he always has a home with us. He actually has plans for his future – something new for him - and talks about having self-respect and self-worth, and that is a miracle in itself.
What I will leave you with is this: most teens in the Foster Care system end up in group homes, as most Foster Parents don’t want older kids. I had a placement agent tell me that once a child reaches 12 years old that they rarely even try to place them and instead send them directly to the group home as they are automatically considered “unplaceable”. Once these kids reach 18 years of and age out of the system, over 90% of them will be homeless, drug addicts or gang members, with a very short life expectancy.
So if you are thinking of becoming Foster Parents, consider taking a teen. There is a lot of work involved, but the work is nothing compared with the rewards. To give a child a second shot at life is such a gift, and there are so many who are just looking for someone to love them and value them. I promise you – it WILL change your life.
~*~
Molly, thank you so much for sharing that wonderful story with my readers. How can it not touch someone's heart? Hopefully it will help someone consider being a foster parent to a child who needs love and stability.

So, from the classes we took and the experiences we’ve had, here are some things we have learned over the past two years that have helped our family tremendously:
- God’s plan isn’t always our plan.
- Don’t expect a child to be grateful for being taken in. In fact, they will most likely be suspicious of you and your motives – not grateful. If you are doing it just for the gratitude, you are doing it for the wrong reason.
- Be flexible.
- Throw your expectations out of the window. You have to get to understand a child’s behavior and personality before you can know what your expectations should be.
- Don’t forget to spend time with your own kids and make sure they feel valued.
- It is OK to take charge of what you need to: school, testing, meetings, doctors, etc - don’t wait for the system to do it for you, or it probably won’t get done.
- Don’t expect them to trust you. Too many adults have given them reasons not to trust, and you will have to earn it from them.
- Don’t give up, even when it seems impossible. Nothing is impossible for God. And it isn’t about you – it is about your child.
- Even though you say “I love you”, don’t expect it in return.
- Don’t ever stop saying “I love you”, no matter what the reaction is. Our job is to love a child, not to change them. Changing them is up to God.
- And finally, have faith that, even if you don’t see it, God IS changing them.
