God is So Good!

  This is my sister’s testimony. To give a little background, in 2006, we lost our mama. About a month later, Barbara was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Over many months she went through a radical mastectomy, reconstruction surgery, aggressive chemo, and radiation. She never gave up and her faith was a testimony to all who knew and met her. Fast forward to 2018… it was a hard year for me and my two sisters. Our oldest sister lost her husband in January, Barbara was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in February, and my sweet 2 year old granddaughter, who had been sick for several months, was diagnosed with a brain tumor on June 1st. If you have followed me the past few years, you know of Jolee’s journey with surgeries and treatments and have rejoiced with us over stable scans. God is good! During the last 3 years, my sister has gone about every 3 or 4 weeks for treatment to keep her cancer from getting worse, even though it was throughout her body. But now, watch this video of her testimony at church! When she called me to tell me the news that afternoon, I didn’t know what to say, I think I was in shock in a good way… like her, I wasn’t expecting that news. Our oldest sister announced it at church that night (not this video) and we cried and people rejoiced and shouted and praised God… but now you can see Barbara’s testimony at her church. Half Square Triangle Star Quilt

 

I recently finished another quilt. This one is about 56” square. I wanted it to have a pattern, but not too obvious. Can you see the radiating star? It was a windy day, so it was a little difficult to get a good photo of the quilt top.

It is made from mostly half square triangles, except for the black floral squares that run diagonally.

The back has a row of flying geese with coordinating aqua fabric on each side.

The double fold French binding is a solid bright orange-red.

Americana Quilt Eagles

 

A few years ago, I made some patriotic eagles using antique quilts and antique textiles. I found another cutter quilt and made a few patriotic eagles.

These are inspired by a bird I saw on an antique auction website years ago.

Listing My Favorite Quilt

 

When I started making this quilt, I was making it to sell. But as I began choosing strips of fabric, I fell in love with pretty much each piece. And I decided to keep it. So I continued adding strips cutting a few here and there to break up the lines. I also added little 2 1/2” squares of green to add a subtle pop of color. And I used several shades of green to make the double fold French binding.

I quilted it on my Juki TL 2000 QI using a walking foot. 

For the back, I chose a brown plaid that I’d saved several years ago.

Can you choose a favorite fabric? I can’t!

My photos loaded out of order but I uploaded so many, I didn’t want to reload everything. I figured I’d just talk about them as I came to them.

You can see how I used a design wall to arrange and rearrange everything before I sewed it together.

Here is a closeup of the binding... I love hand stitching the binding! 

 

And once the quilt is washed... oh, I love the crinkly, wrinkled look!

I ended up leaving it in the stack of quilts that were for sale, but I never listed it. So, this week, I will be listing several quilts I have made.

My husband has been off work a few months and had back surgery in April. He’s still recuperating and it will be a while before he can go back to work. I decided to get back to working more and selling more of my handmade items.

Vintage Half Square Triangle Quilt

 

While this isn’t what you’d call a pretty quilt, it has some vintage charm.

I wanted to use the feedsack fabrics I had recently bought. And I wanted to make half square triangles... so I made this quilt!

All prints are vintage. The solids are new fabrics.

I did a simple meandering quilting design with my Juki TL 2000qi.

It’s the perfect size for a baby quilt or toddler quilt, and if your decor is vintage or country cottage, that’s even better!
