Can you tell me ...

... what this is?
Obviously it's a brooch ...

I think it's Victorian.

... possibly silver, though I can't find any markings ...

The piece hanging near the bottom has an aqua colored cabochon ...

but I don't think the cabochon is glass ...

I found this wonderful old brooch at a booth at the 127 Sale (more pics of the sale to come in another post in a few days).
Any ideas?
Thanks!
:)

  1. Hi Lana. How pretty! At first I thought was the thingy women used to wear on they sweaters. They didn't button the sweater and one side would be attached to the button on the top and the other side would be attached to the button hole. But I really don't know if that could be it or not.

  3. Oh, it's lovely - I wonder if its a chatelaine of some sort...

  4. It almost looks like an amulet of some sorts...for stashing snuff or smelling powders. Does it appear to open at all? It is quite lovely, nonetheless. I would have had to scoop it up also!

  5. There are two places at the end (of the key) from which a chain may hang so there may be a missing piece. I believe it is some kind of a brooch with a fob and may in fact had a watch hanging from the other link at one time.
Either way it is indeed beautiful as well as intriguing.

  6. It appears to me also, that it would be some kind of brooch to hold a scarf in place by pinning this on it on the top of the shoulder. The cabochon looks like a very old opal, possibly. What a find, love it...
