blue

It's raining.
I love the rain.
It's supposed to snow tonight.
I love snow even more.

But for some reason I feel blue... a bit melancholy. The Christmas tree is up and a few more decorations are scattered about our home, but if it wasn't for my daughter putting up the tree and decorations, they wouldn't be up. In a way, holidays are now just another day to me.

As I've gotten older, and both my parents are gone, I understand why some people are sad this time of year. Sometimes I have to work at it to feel excited.

Don't misunderstand though, CHRISTmas is more than just a holiday day to me, it's something I have in my heart and soul forever, even on sad days. That's what gets me through sad days, having Christ in my heart.

As for the blues, this too shall pass ~ that I know ~ and tomorrow I will probably snap out of it and I'll be working non-stop on orders and housework and last minute shopping again.

French author, Charles Baudelaire, once said:
"I can barely conceive of a type of beauty in which there is no Melancholy."
And so, I thought I'd scatter this blog post with blue items in my home... a mixture of melancholy and beauty.

I think I'll go get a cup of hot tea and pop in a Jane Austen movie...

Thanks for visiting...

Take Care & God Bless,
Lana

  1. Oh, Lana, I do hope you feel better soon...I know I sometimes feel that way also around the holidays because there is always SO much to do...my kids are all grown and Christmas day is not the same as it used to be but the reason for Christmas is still there!
Have a blessed and merry Christmas.

  2. Your blues are by far just simply beautiful. I too always feel a special sadness at Christmas - your quote says it so perfectly. I wish you a new week filled with everything Christmas.

  5. Lana~ I am feeling blue as well, my beloved Mother passed away June 20th, 2009 and I am missing her so very much. We loved each other deeply. I am trying my very best as I have a 13yr old son, Noah, but this year is not the same and it never will be. My heart literally aches. Thanks for sharing all the beautiful blue decor in your home. With All Best Wishes~ Kim

  6. Hi Lana,

Just last night a friend said to me, that I seemed a bit "low". I teared up, and said that I am, this year too. I think that this time of year is full of so many poignant thoughts, hopes and sometimes expectations, that it can overwhelm us, but mostly, it is the memories of those who have gone ahead of us, that gives this time of year it's bittersweet moments. I just try to put the emphasis on making happy memories for my family and friends, giving back to the world a bit, and making time for things that I enjoy. Little Women is on my list for one afternoon this week. It's a lovely movie for this time of year.

Your decor, and your crafts, are as always, quite lovely.

    I wish you peace.
